He mihi mahana ki a tātou katoa, on behalf of RadFanz Aotearoa I would like to warmly invite all self-identified Radical faeries to the Mid-Winter Solstice gatherette to be held at Horopito Cottage (thanks to the gracious owners Chris, Kris and Andy). Horopito Cottage is located near the base of Mount Ruapehu (i te rohe o ngā iwi o Tuwharetoa), on the Central Plateau (the nearest large township being Ohakune, approximately 3-4 hours drive from Wellington, or 4 ½ hours drive from Auckland).
The gathering will begin on Friday the 23rd (if people would like to arrive on Thursday evening that could also be arranged- just let the QR ‘me’ Scattina know), and we will have a closing ceremony sometime on Sunday (it will be short, sweet and cosy as). There is the possibility for people to stay longer if they wish, the details of such can be organised with the owners of Horopito Cottage.
Celebrated for centuries as Christmas in Northern hemisphere European cultures, winter solstice is an important time to re-connect with one another as we move through the darkest period of the year back towards light and growth. The appearance of Matariki in early June is also a seasonal reminder to draw together and prepare for the year ahead.
Bring lots of warm clothes, the Central Plateau area is pretty damn cold (it could snow); perfect for cuddling up around the fire, sharing stories, good food, laughter, hot fire baths and queer loving energy in general. The theme is ‘heart circle’ lol. Gatherings are times to come together to celebrate life as queer people of all varieties, who seek to connect with one another and the land in ways that nourish the spirit and the physical body.
If you would like to help out with anything prior to the gathering or have any other questions contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org (Scattina Gaywell Shiraz), ngā mihi
